Welcome to the English Language Centre in the beautiful historic city of York - the perfect choice for all your language needs.

The ELC was established in 1997 by Hugh and Judy MacDermot with the aim of offering top quality courses in a friendly and professional atmosphere and in beautiful surroundings.

The English Language Centre occupies an historic Georgian Town House built in 1750 and carefully adapted for use as a language school. It is situated inside the 700 year-old walls in the heart of the most historic part of the city.

Although the ELC has grown considerably since the opening, it is happily still a small school with a famously friendly touch. Hugh and Judy are both actively involved with the day-to-day running of the Centre to ensure that everything runs smoothly. You will find their office door is constantly open - an invitation for you to drop in to ask questions, discuss your course or simply to have a chat!

Courses to suit everyone at the English Language Centre - General English Courses Cambridge Examination Courses (IELTS all year round, First Certificate, Advanced) Adult Summer Courses, Junior Summer Courses (12 - 15) One -to-one Courses, Teachers' Refresher Courses. CELTA and DELTA Courses for Teacher Training.

Our teaching team are well-qualified, dynamic and very enthusiastic professionals. Above all, they will take a friendly interest in you and your studies.

Like most of our students you may decide to choose Homestay Accommodation and we can offer Standard or Executive homestays.

Whichever you choose, you can rest assured that all our Homestays have been carefully selected and inspected to offer you a warm welcome and a comfortable stay.
